ABOUT THE POSITION

The Manager/ Director (depending upon experience), Food Safety & Quality Assurance supports Urban Remedy Standards and promotes the Company's success by ensuring consumer protection, product satisfaction, supply chain integrity, and operational efficiencies.

This individual will be accountable for providing leadership and oversight to the quality and sanitation functions at the Richmond, California Production Facility in order to assure product conformance to specification, food safety, GMP, HACCP & Good Laboratory Practices and meeting industry requirements. This position provides leadership in the development, auditing & expansion of Quality & Sanitation programs & practices.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • A minimum of 5-10 years experience in food or pharmaceutical manufacturing in a plant and lab environment.
  • 5+ years of management experience in a fast paced food-manufacturing environment.
  • Understands SQF initiatives, GMS Safe, and other industry standards.
  • Develops effective working relationships with all internal and external customers as well as effective supplier relationships.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level organizational skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in microbiology or food science. Additional training and qualifications is preferred.
  • HACCP certified
  • GMP trained and understanding of requaltions
  • In depth knowledge of the SQF Audit process
  • HAZMAT Training

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage the Quality department colleagues, assuring an effective & strong audit function.
  • Provide ongoing opportunities to collaborate and expand knowledge/skills to maximize QA employee's performance, achievement of company goals and job retention.
  • Direct and manage all quality & sanitation functions within UR Quality Management Standards, UR Quality Policy and business processes.
  • Develop and implement effective quality systems to improve product conformance and food safety.
  • Investigate non-conformances and customer complaints to determine root causes, provide responses, and determine corrective and/or preventative actions.
  • Research technical and regulatory issues and draft company position statements.
  • Provide support/guidance for the QA labs & production areas to include training in food safety (GMP, HAACP, allergens, and other topics).
  • Audit, implement and manage systems to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements (organic, GMPs, )
  • Primary site contact for all raw material and packaging suppliers.
  • Manage the vendor non conformance process to assure corrective action and contract compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement throuout the supply chain by managing supplier qualification and the sampling, examination, testing, and approval of procured materials to assure compliance to UR standards.
  • Provide support of all internal and external audits.
  • Manage quality and process improvement activities.
  • Play a major role n the responsibilities associated with launching multiple new products within timelines.
